IBC NAMES SUZA ACADEMICIAN IN 100 WORLD TOP 2010
SCIENTISTS LIST
Dr. Mohammed Ali Sheikh (36), a lecturer in Chemistry at the State University
of Zanzibar (SUZA) has been considered and nominated for recognition by the
International Biographical Centre (IBC) being among 100 world top scientists for
The IBC Award Board every year notifies the nomination of 100 eminent
professionals in the field of science. This nomination is made out of many
thousands of biographies from a wide variety of sources investigated by the
research and editorial departments of the IBC. A selected few are those of
individuals, who, in IBC belief have made a significant enough contribution in
their field to engender influence on a local, national or international basis, Dr.

Sheikh has met these requirements and has now been honoured a member of the
IBC.
As a holder of this distinction, Dr. Sheikh can be assured of his place in the
history of International Biographical Centre and be gratified that his work has not
only been noticed but also recognized as outstanding.

world.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
He was awarded a high profile postdoctoral fellowship for prominent young
researchers in Japan, funded by the Japan Society for promotion of Science (http://
www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-fellow/postdoctoral.html) from 2008- 2010. He received
his PhD degree specialized in Environmental Analytical Chemistry and Eco-
toxicology from the Ryukyu National University, Okinawa, Japan - (http://www.u-
ryukyu.ac.jp). (2005-2008). He received his undergraduate qualifications (BSc.
Chemistry/Statistics) at the University of Dar es Salaam (www.udsm.ac.co.tz )
from 1996 to 1999.
Presently, Dr. Sheikh is a lecturer in Chemistry at the State University of
Zanzibar (www.suza.ac.tz). He is also a founding member of the Department
of Science of SUZA. He also manages the Zanzibar Business and academic
consultants (ZABACCO) which extends consultancy services in area relating to
Business, Environmental, Academic affairs and Information Technology. His

research interests mainly focusing on environmental analytical chemistry, eco-
toxicology, aquatic pollution and chemical oceanography. His recent special
research interests focus on studying synergistic effects of toxic chemicals, warming
and acidification in marine biota in particular coral reefs.
Dr. Sheikh has been involved as a member of various academic and
scientific associations such as (1) Japanese Society of Environmental Chemistry
(2) Aquatic Ecosystem, Health and Management, Canada, (3) Marine Technology
Society, Canada, (4) International Association of Environmental Analytical
Chemistry, (5) American Geophysical Union and (6) Japanese Geosciences
society.
He authored, reviewed and presented more than a dozen of scientific
papers in refereed journals and international scientific meetings. He has extensive
experience in management and advising on carrying out projects on behavior and
effects of hazardous substances in aquatic environments and environmental and
social impact assessment.

Noorah amesema kuwa ngoma hii ni kali na anaiaminia sana ndio maana kaitanguliza kwenye kuvunja ukimya wake. Aidha Noorah kasema ukimya wake ulisababishwa na elimu aliyokuwa akiichukua toka chuo cha usimamizi wa fedha (IFM) katika mchepui wa IT. Lakini kwa sasa ameshamaliza kwahiyo mpango utakuwa bandika bandua!
