Arsenal’s Theo Walcott was surprisingly left out for World Cup 2010. Many thought that Walcott was a sure bet for a spot on the plane to South Africa, but apparently coach Fabio Capello thought otherwise.
Let’s be honest, Walcott probably also thought that he was a probable selection for the squad as well, and being left off the roster most definitely came as a crushing blow. Players battle and train for this tournament that comes around once every four years and to be excluded is surely a disappointment.
Despite the sour taste Capello left in his mouth, Walcott could not have handled the situation any better than he did.
“I am very disappointed not to be included in the squad going out to South Africa, but completely respect Mr. Capello’s decision,” Walcott said in a statement on Arsenal’s website. “I would like to wish the team the best of luck and hope they have a really successful tournament.”
