Maurice Fulton produces Mim Suleiman’s album for Running Back

Just the combination of these three names together sounds exciting. Maurice Fulton is, of course, the man, the myth and the legend. Mim Suleiman, originally from Tanzania, has been bubbling just on the periphery for some time now and has been receiving some great reviews. Plus, this will be Running Back’s first ever full-length album. Quite an exciting prospect, I’m sure you would all agree.

Maurice Fulton is the man who moved from Philadelphia to Sheffield (UK) because of his fascination with the now long gone steal industry of all things. As well as that, Fulton has been putting out records for well over 20 years with pioneering labels such as Compost, Sonar Kollektiv, DFA, Versatile, and 20:20 Vision. Mim Suleiman has been living and recording in England for some time, now contributing vocals in Swahili and English for funk and soul outfit Bare Knuckle Soul and afro-beat troupe Rafiki Jazz, both of who are based in Sheffield.

A Maurice Fulton production will always be an exciting prospect, simply because you can be sure it will blow your mind. In this case it is even more exciting as his work with Mim has been playing through his BubbleTeaseCommunication podcasts – and it sounds sublime in a way only Maurice Fulton knows how.

Mim Suleiman’s Nyuli is out now on 12″ (incl. Fulton Dub) with Mingli (incl. instrumental) due out in June along with the Tungi CD album.
